Humility’s Dilemma

Humility’s Dilemma

(a companion poem to Monday’s post: Humility)

Shades of gray range

in a wide array.

The scales of life

are immense, and

always come to balance.

There are as many

ways to be successful

as there are people.

Nothing lacks dimension.

It is hard to be humble,

when, by perception,

anything is exceptional.

To find where we fit,

we must grapple with

how different the infinite

is from the infinitesimal.

“To see a world in a grain of sand–” William Blake

    This. Is. awesome!! ?

  • Superb, as usual. I appreciate poetry that takes WORK to read, and then you need to let it sit and marinate in your soul. When I come back to the verse, it always reads a bit differently for me then. More depth. Excellence! Thanks, Mark! – DDM

  • I love this, especially where you consider perception as the gauge to measure anything. Isn’t that so true?

  • wow i love this! I always wanted to add my poetry to my posts but I was too scared, but I love this so much you kind of inspired me to do so. it might take me awhile though!

  • This is the third time I’ve been back here to read …
I am struck by your spectrum of perception.
So much of what I ultimately (and truly) appreciate is wordless.

That being said, I have nothing more than a feeling heart.

    • I am so honored you say that Lisa. That’s what good poetry does for me and I’m honored a poem of mine does that for you.

boy you can write, and so can your readers, they leave deep, beautiful comments, this is the first time I’ve read your lyrics, sorry poetry. you really work at it, and the responses… well, its really something Mk. I know how much this means to you, the writing, your replys are full of warmth and real honest to god…. when you say your honored that a poem of yours helps or makes someone feel positive, its coming from the heart. I cant wait to read your great american novel when its finished, because i know its coming!! this post: elegant as ever

  • I had to look up the last word!!

It is a dilemma to me, that’s for sure.
I often have no idea where I fit!
