Challenge

I was raised to embrace challenges. I am not comfortable sitting back and binge watching Netflix. That doesn’t make me feel good. I prefer to be trying something new or trying to master something old.

Necessity

Anyone who understands human nature at a very rudimentary level can tell you: forcing somebody to do something does not motivate them.

Ulysses

This drive to flood receptors with newer and newer signals explains why the ‘generation gap’ is accelerating in smaller intervals. What makes my generation yell, “Okay, Boomer,” is what is making a generation much closer in age to mine yell, “Okay, Millennial.”

Just Believe

If that can stand in as my version of belief in the Christmas spirit, then from now on, on Christmas Day, you will find me the hi-ho-jolliest old elf this side of the nuthouse.

Fear

And I got to thinking about fear — how we all feel it — how complex fear can be in today’s world. And I sat down to write about it because I have a blog where I share my thoughts on everyday matters, and how much the everydayness of those matters matter.

Faith

My faith tells me that, with times growing increasingly complex, simpler things are true and good and worthwhile. My faith tells me to grant mercy and kindness and tolerance, especially when faced with combativeness and stubbornness and insecurity.

Gorilla

What if our goals shifted off of task completion and material gain and onto treating every living thing we encounter with grace and civility?

Baby Talk

When you really stop to think about it, acting like a baby is not really how babies act. These are adult characteristics that we associate with the behavior of babies. Yes, toddlers, like mine, throw a fit when they don’t get what they want, but that’s often because we act like we don’t understand them, while speaking to them as if that’s their fault.

Imagine

There is a big difference between going out to unearth the next big story and going in to discover your own.

Sequels

Vulnerability allows you to experience the most mundane aspects of life as adventuresome excursions.
